This Sunday marks the Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year and one of the great turning points of the wheel.
For thousands of years, human beings have gathered at Solstices and Equinoxes to mark these sacred moments in nature’s cycle. Long before calendars, smartphones and electric lighting, people recognised something important about these seasonal thresholds.
They knew they mattered. Perhaps they didn’t always know exactly why. But they felt it.
And if I’m honest, I think many of us still do.
In a world that often feels increasingly disconnected, individualised and busy, there is something deeply nourishing about coming together with others to pause, reflect and remember that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
I’ve studied consciousness, healing, spirituality and even science, for decades, and the more I do, the more I find myself returning to a simple idea:
Everything is connected – not just metaphorically, but perhaps more literally than we once believed.
For many years I’ve shared the work of Dr. Masaru Emoto during my soundbath events. His experiments exploring how intention, words and emotions appeared to influence the crystalline structure of water have fascinated millions of people around the world. More recently, I’ve been captivated by the work of researcher Veda Austin, whose investigations into water continue to raise fascinating questions about memory, information and the responsiveness of nature itself. Whether one approaches this work scientifically, spiritually or simply with curiosity, it invites us to consider something profound:
What if water is not as passive as we once believed? What if it is constantly responding to its environment?
And if that were true, what might that mean for us, considering our bodies are made up of more than sixty percent water? What might our thoughts, emotions, relationships, environments and experiences be communicating to us at a cellular level?
Then there is light…
Anyone who has spent time around me will know I love talking about sunlight. Not simply as a source of warmth and Vitamin D, but as information. As intelligence – and as something that may be doing far more than we currently understand.
I’ve been fascinated by the work of physicists and researchers exploring the possibility that light itself carries information throughout living systems.
Some studies have shown that light can influence biological development in extraordinary ways. Researchers have explored how living organisms communicate through light emissions, how cells exchange information, and how biological systems may be far more interconnected than we previously imagined.
Whether we call these influences photonic communication, biofields, consciousness or simply nature’s intelligence, the implications are awe-inspiring.
Perhaps life is not merely a collection of separate parts.
Perhaps it is an ongoing conversation; a continuous exchange of information,
Between the sun and the earth.
Between water and light.
Between nature and humanity.
Between one human heart and another.
This idea is beautifully echoed in the work of people such as Robert Edward Grant, whose explorations into sacred geometry, mathematics, consciousness, ancient structures and sound reveal remarkable patterns woven throughout nature and human history. Across cultures and across time, our ancestors built monuments aligned to Solstices and Equinoxes. They understood rhythm, cycles, and that certain moments in the year invite us to stop and pay attention.
The Summer Solstice is one of those moments.
A pause, a breath, a chance to step out of the relentless pace of everyday life and ask:
What has grown?
What has blossomed?
What is being illuminated?
And perhaps most importantly…
Who am I sharing this journey with?
Because while I love exploring water, light, sound, consciousness and the mysteries of our extraordinary universe, what I return to again and again is community.
Healing happens in relationship.
Growth happens in relationship.
Meaning happens in relationship.
Even the most independent among us need moments of connection, moments of being seen, moments of laughter, reflection, kindness and shared experience.
Perhaps that is why gatherings around the turning points of the wheel have endured for thousands of years.
Not because people had all the answers.
But because they recognised the importance of coming together – of remembering, celebrating – witnessing one another.
Perhaps there is another reason these moments have endured for so long – seasonal thresholds invite us to feel the passage of time itself.
Many people talk about Winter Blues.. but not so many talk about Summer Solstice grief.. and yet many of us (yes me included) experience it. There is something about reaching the ‘peak’ that requires us to acknowledge both the beauty and the inevitable passing of things.
Because Summer Solstice reminds us that everything beautiful is temporary.
The flower blooms and the flower fades.
The day lengthens and the day shortens.
The inhale becomes the exhale…….
The wheel turns.
So as we arrive at this Summer Solstice, my invitation is simple. Spend some time in nature, watch a sunrise or sunset, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, reach out to someone you care about. Gather with your community.
And if subjects such as consciousness, water, light, sacred geometry, sound healing and the deeper mysteries of life call to you as much as they do to me, follow your curiosity. Go exploring… read the books, listen to the podcasts, ask questions, stay open.
You don’t have to arrive at the same conclusions as anyone else. The joy is often in the journey itself.
For me, these explorations fill me with wonder, reverence and a deep appreciation for the extraordinary world we inhabit. And perhaps that sense of wonder is one of the greatest gifts of all.
Wishing you a beautiful Summer Solstice <3.
May you take a moment to pause, appreciate how far you’ve come, and remember that none of us were ever meant to walk this path alone.
