There are certain moments in the year that seem to invite us to pause.
Whether that invitation comes through the changing seasons, the quiet wisdom of nature, the movements of the heavens, or simply a feeling we can’t quite explain, humanity has always recognised that some thresholds are worth marking.
The Lionsgate Portal is one of those moments.
Traditionally spanning 26th July until 12th August, it reaches its culmination this year with a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Leo – a combination that many astrologers regard as a particularly potent time for reflection, healing, release and new beginnings.
Whether you understand that through astrology, spirituality, symbolism or simply as a beautiful reason to become a little more intentional, perhaps the deeper invitation remains the same.
To pay attention.
Because perhaps the greatest gift these moments offer isn’t that the Universe suddenly becomes different…Perhaps it’s that we do.
Why have people honoured this time?
For the ancient Egyptians, this period was associated with the rising of Sirius, the brightest star in our sky. Its appearance before dawn always coincided with the annual flooding of the River Nile that brought fertile land, new life and the promise of another harvest.
Then across Britain and much of Europe, communities would gather at this time offering gratitude for the first harvest – celebrating the Pagan turning of the wheel celebration called Lammas or Lughnasadh.
Different cultures. Different stories. Yet perhaps they were responding to the same instinct.
To pause – acknowledging that life moves in cycles, and to consciously meet the threshold rather than simply rush through it.
In many ways, I wonder if we’ve forgotten how important that is.
Living in extraordinary times
It doesn’t take much to notice that the world feels unusually unsettled.
Many of us are carrying far more than our nervous systems were ever designed to process. Endless information. Constant opinion. Uncertainty. Noise. A pace of life that rarely allows us to stop long enough to hear ourselves think.
Perhaps that is precisely why moments like this feel so important, because they invite us back into relationship with ourselves . And one of the deepest realisations I have come to over the years is this:
Consciousness changes behaviour. Behaviour changes relationships. Relationships change communities. Communities change the world.
When we become a little more aware, a little more present and a little more compassionate, our choices begin to change.
Those choices ripple into our families, our friendships, our workplaces and our communities.
The healing of the world rarely begins with grand gestures – more often, it begins quietly, within a single human heart.
Perhaps that is why tending to ourselves is never a selfish act…
It is one small contribution towards the kind of world we would all like to live in.
The symbolism of this year’s eclipse
For thousands of years, eclipses have captured humanity’s imagination.
Long before we understood the mechanics of celestial movement, our ancestors looked skyward as daylight was briefly interrupted and instinctively recognised that they were witnessing something extraordinary.
Whether viewed through mythology, astronomy or astrology, eclipses have always invited us to pay attention.
A New Moon naturally represents fresh beginnings – a time for planting seeds, setting intentions and creating space for something new to emerge.
However, a Solar Eclipse both deepens and broadens that symbolism. Many people experience these eclipse periods as catalysts: moments that illuminate what has run its course, or ‘wildcards’ busting opening the door to what is ready to unfold next.
This year’s eclipse arrives in Leo, the sign so often associated with the heart, courage, creativity and authentic self-expression, and its going to stretch us in all of these necessary ways
Yet, rather than asking us to become someone new, perhaps it asks something even more powerful:
What part of me is ready to be lived more fully?
And what am I finally ready to lay down?
Not because someone else expects me to…but because my heart already knows its time.
Meeting the moment
Whether or not you resonate with astrology, this feels like a beautiful opportunity to create a small ritual of your own and you don’t need anything elaborate.
- Perhaps simply step away from the noise for an hour and leave your phone inside.
- Watch the sunset.
- Sit beneath the stars.
- Walk slowly through woodland.
- Light a candle.
- Journal honestly.
- Spend time with someone who helps you remember who you are.
- Meditate.
- Receive a healing treatment.
- Or simply allow yourself to do… less.
The practice itself matters far less than the quality of presence you bring to it – because the intention is not to do spirituality…. The invitation is to remember that your own wellbeing is worthy of your attention.
Why I love offering sound at times like this
This is one of the reasons I feel so drawn to offering Sound Healing around these seasonal thresholds.
Across cultures and throughout history, sound has accompanied humanity’s most sacred moments – celebration, grief, prayer, transition and renewal.
Whether we understand its effects through resonance, vibration, nervous system regulation or simply the profound rest it allows us to experience, sound has a remarkable way of helping us soften enough to hear ourselves again.
To honour this Lionsgate period and its culmination with the New Moon Solar Eclipse, I’ve opened a small number of private Sound Healing sessions across Saturday 8th August (Lionsgate 8/8 Peak) and Wednesday 12th August (The Solar Eclipse & Portal Closure date) to work with these profoundly powerful energies.
These can be experienced on your own, with your partner, or shared with a small group of family or friends if you would like to mark this threshold together.
Each session is created around those attending, offering a peaceful space to pause, release what no longer serves, reconnect with what truly matters and step into the next season of life with a little more clarity, coherence and ease.
Whether you spend this Lionsgate Portal with me, or simply choose to honour it in your own way, my hope is that you allow yourself a little time to become still…and to listen to that quiet inner voice that’s been wanting your attention all along…
Because perhaps the greatest transformations begin in those quiet moments when we finally come home to ourselves.
With love xx
